Closing the Gap
2019. Weaving Series on Frame Loom.
Made completely out of scraps of clothing and traditional textiles from the home of a mother of 8 children, this weaving series aims to depict the struggles of motherhood. This Weaving Series is inspired by the stories of women like my mother, who let go of her passion for craft skills upon becoming a full time mom. So I decided to add an obstruction to the frame from a traditional loom: a wired circle in the middle that interrupted the flow of the weaving, resembling the obstructions that women suffer while balancing motherhood and self-identity.
